Astral Characters:
The astralverse is populated by characters representing the zodiac: Click on the gallery below to learn more about each character!

Agnesh is the Aries of the astralverse. She's a stout, brash, energetic, and valiant samurai-based warrior. Her helm features ram horns emblazoned with a stylised Mars symbol, the glyph for Aries. Her name is a mashup of Latin agnes, "lamb," and Hindu Agni, the god of fire. Not featured: her silver buckler and weapon of choice, a war hammer.

Tayorah is the astral Taurus. She's reserved, focused, decisive, and stubborn, as well. She feels herself as a protector of the astralverse, perhaps second to the Leo.

Pollux and Castor are the astral twins. They often represent the more mischievous side of Gemini. They like to socialise and have fun, and get bored easily. One of the plots involves a retrograde of Mercury, their ruling planet, causing one of the twins to turn dark--and some of the human characters to form shadow selves.

Amarys is a personification of the Moon. She always has a glowing, ethereal energy about her. She's actually not that well-known, but what is known is that she has healing powers.

The tabby is an extension of the king of the astralverse, distinguished as "the Leo," who needs the help of Zody and their classmates. The tabby and lion share a star mark under their eye: on the cat, it's under the right, and on the lion, it's under the left.

Loren mysteriously seems to have once been human. He's shy, bordering on timid, and is most often in the background, reading under a tree. He comes to the fore towards the last season when he becomes a key figure in a final plot.

Shallan might not be as assertive as his humanside counterpart, Olivia. He prefers to quietly observe and only make a decision or comment when absolutely necessary. He functions as a defender and peacemaker of the astralverse.

Kali--based heavily, if not entirely, on the Hindu goddess of darkness--is Delores times a thousand. She resides in the shadows of the astralverse, far at the river's end. She's dark, mysterious, often silent and relishes in the chaotic confusion she often inspires. She bears the glyph for Scorpio's planetary ruler, Pluto, as her bindi.

Rouran's horse body is based on Przewalski's horse, a stocky, true wild horse native to central Asia. As such, he bears name of a Mongolian nomadic tribe. His hair was a traditional Mongolian warrior style I'd found in my research (but can't seem to find again). Rouran himself doesn't really have much of a character yet. He was the final one I designed, and I haven't quite finished constructing him yet.

Aelhorn's (pronounced "ell-ern") name was inspired by "Lady Ellhorn," another name for the elder tree. Aelhorn is a satyr who lives in the mountains of the astralverse, behind the Eridanus River. He primarily presents in his young form, but has adult and elder forms, as well, depending on the position of his ruling planet, Saturn (also the god of time). When Saturn is in retrograde, he's a youth. Fun detail: his freckles form the Capricornus constellation.

Yemoja is another who's an extension of their human counterpart. She's even more distant at times than Skyler, often found meditating at the riverside. Fun fact: her top and the shape of her eyes and eyebrows all mirror the Aquarius symbol. Named after a Yoruba spirit and river deity.

The astral Pisces characters, Mauka and Makai, are eccentric, androgynous mermaids who have the power to spiritually heal and to take dreamy to a dangerous level. Each bears half of the Pisces symbol on their foreheads; when their magic unites, the glyphs glow together. They reside in the water at the river's end. Their names are based on the Hawaiian form of Pisces, in which one faces “mauka,” towards the mountains, and one faces “makai,” towards the ocean.
